Ties that Bind & Other Stories (EAEP)
Some short description
Ties That Bind and Other Stories consists of fifteen stories, most of which are drawn from Kenya and Uganda. There are also two stories from Nigeria and one from Cameroon. The collection has a good variety in thematic concerns. Notable, also, is that most of the short stories are making a debut on the literary scene.
The stories are built around relevant contemporary issues, such as relationships, HIV/Aids and its effects, hypocrisy, governance and gender. The stories in the collection are mainly told from the third person narrator’s point of view. Most employ narration as the key narrative technique. This is spiced by use of imagery, flashback, suspense, as well as a sprinkling of irony. The stories present the reader with credible characters who carry the plot and themes
adequately to the end of each story.
